to receive payouts of up to \u00a370 each.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, as the case concerns processing fees charged to retailers &#8211; which were then passed on to shoppers in the form of inflated prices &#8211; you don&#8217;t need to have ever had a Mastercard to qualify.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is eligible for compensation from Mastercard?<\/h2>\n<p>According to MSE, you&#8217;ll be eligible to claim if you meet <strong>all <\/strong>of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You lived in England, Northern Ireland or Wales for at least three months in a row between June 20, 1997, and June 21, 2008. <em>Or<\/em>, you lived in Scotland for at least three months in a row between May 22, 1992, and June 21, 2008.<\/li>\n<li>You were aged 16 or over during those three months.<\/li>\n<li>During the same period, you bought goods or services from a firm selling in the UK \u2013 regardless of how you paid.<\/li>\n<li>You lived in the UK on September 6, 2016.<\/li>\n<li>You haven&#8217;t previously opted out of the legal case \u2013 you would have needed to actively fill in a form to do so, so if this is the first you&#8217;ve heard of the case, it doesn&#8217;t apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to have been part of the legal action before now to be able to claim, and you won&#8217;t be asked for proof of purchases made during the qualifying period.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div class=\"metro-video-player \" data-track-module=\"video-player\">\n<div class=\"vjs-video-container vjs-fixed vjs-responsive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t{&#8220;@context&#8221;:&#8221;https:\/\/schema.org&#8221;,&#8221;@type&#8221;:&#8221;VideoObject&#8221;,&#8221;name&#8221;:&#8221;Metro.co.uk&#8221;,&#8221;duration&#8221;:&#8221;T30S&#8221;,&#8221;thumbnailUrl&#8221;:&#8221;https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2025\/05\/19\/16\/98535393-0-image-a-3_1747669105214.jpg&#8221;,&#8221;uploadDate&#8221;:&#8221;2025-05-19T16:09:35+0100&#8243;,&#8221;description&#8221;:&#8221;Deadlines move fast. compensation?<\/h2>\n<p>The amount you&#8217;ll get all depends on how many people apply.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneysavingexpert.com\/reclaim\/mastercard-compensation-claim\/#amount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MSE site explains<\/a>: &#8216;If the expected number of people claim \u2013 roughly 2.2 million based on professional estimates \u2013 each person will get \u00a345.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If fewer people than expected claim, the maximum each person will get is \u00a370&#8230; due to a cap that was put in place to avoid people getting disproportionate payouts compared to the alleged loss they suffered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If many more people than expected claim, you may only get a few quid.
