I don\u2019t live with a partner and it\u2019s always been that way, so I\u2019m solely financially responsible for the children. I also don\u2019t have much family help as my parents passed away some years ago.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I work for myself, as\u2028I believe I\u2019m unemployable. href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/10\/ever-maternity-leave-owed-thousands-employer-22699794\/\">maternity pay<\/a> \u2013 which is called maternity allowance if you\u2019re self-employed \u2013 but I\u2019m lucky that I have a few clients on retainers so I still have an income coming in and will get back to work soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/07\/10\/im-teaching-kids-financial-trading-never-work-21198950\/\">I homeschool<\/a> my eldest two girls, who are 12 and 14, because they\u2028didn\u2019t have a great experience at secondary school. My younger ones, aged ten and six, are in primary school and my three-year-old does half days at pre-school.<\/p>\n<p>I manage working by being intentional with my time. I\u2019m here because I bought a barber shop on the high street around ten years ago. It was doing really well \u2013 although I was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic \u2013 but I handed over the keys three years ago because it was too time consuming around the children.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m now a business coach, running my own business at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefemalepreneurcoach.co.uk\/\">thefemalepreneurcoach.co.uk.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I help other women who are business owners to change their relationship with money so that they can make more money in their business and not feel bad doing it. This includes 1:1 coaching (\u00a315k for 6 months together), business bootcamps (\u00a397) and one-off workshops (from \u00a317).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/09\/10\/3-ways-youre-self-sabotaging-your-success-and-how-to-stop-19463736\/\">Self-sabotage<\/a> can get in our way and hold us back from growing our business and money as much as we could.<\/p>\n<p>Work is completed around the kids&#8217; school runs or when they&#8217;re in bed. I also have a number of self-led courses that people can purchase from my sales pages (all automated) and affiliate incomes that I receive. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do you prioritise savings?<\/h2>\n<p>Being self-employed and the sole breadwinner, it\u2019s important to me to always have savings to fall back on in case of emergencies. <\/p>\n<p>I aim for about six months\u2019 worth of essential outgoings, although this has recently taken a knock because I had a difficult pregnancy and have reduced work for the time being because of my newborn. <\/p>\n<p>The baby was unexpected. I\u2019d given everything away so I had to buy everything from scratch, although I bought everything secondhand on places such as Facebook Marketplace to keep costs down.<\/p>\n<p>I always prioritise savings and investments. Whenever I have money come in, I allocate at least 10% to investments, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/17\/pensions-much-save-a-month-start-23005884\/\">pension<\/a>, and 10% to savings. The biggest cost is my rent, at \u00a32,300 a month, which is actually cheap for the area as it used to be a student house and I\u2019ve done a lot of work to it, including decorating. <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m also paying off my car, a secondhand, seven-seater Land Rover Discovery, at \u00a3500 a month. I\u2019m hoping to clear this debt within the next two years. <\/p>\n<p>I also took out a business loan, where repayments are around \u00a3700 a month until next July. Council tax is \u00a3230 a month and the food shop is around \u00a3600 a month, which I know \u2028is a lot. <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m now growing my own fruit and vegetable patch in the garden so we can grow more of our own food and cut back on food spending. <\/p>\n<p>Activities with the children are expensive. I took the children to the cinema last weekend and it cost me \u00a3150. Some of my children also do drama, karate and football, which costs \u00a3275 a month.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are some of your best money-saving strategies?<\/h2>\n<p>To raise a bit of money, I\u2019m always looking at ways we can declutter the house and sell things we no longer need on Vinted.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also signed up to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/the-slice\/\">several newsletters to get deals<\/a> on days out and experiences.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m always looking for deals and ways to save money, and document my spending and tips through my YouTube channel, <a href=\"http:\/\/The Money Mumma 6\">The Money Mumma 6<\/a>. I also use the cashback app JamDoughnut to get money off shopping and meals out.<\/p>\n<p>I booked our upcoming holiday \u2013 a week\u2019s all-inclusive holiday in Spain this summer \u2013 through Topcashback to get \u00a3100 off. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still really expensive though \u2013 at \u00a35,000 including flights \u2013 but being all-inclusive at least I know the exact cost and can budget each month to pay for it. I buy the kids\u2019 summer wardrobes in the Christmas sales to save money ahead of time.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Any future financial goals?<\/h2>\n<p>In the future I\u2019d like to buy my own place. I used to be on the property ladder.
